Surround yourself with people who lift you higher

In this day and age where everything and anything is shared freely, to anyone and everyone on the Internet, we come to wonder where to draw the line on what to share and what not to share.
Here's an article about setting clear objectives for yourself & sharing them with the right people.

I made the most of this holiday season. Spending quality time with my close ones, reflecting on the year that passed and setting myself up for the year ahead. As a young entrepreneur, taking the time to take a step back is precious. Stuck in the whirlwind of every day’s “this is not going fast enough” tempo of growing a business, you don’t get to reflect on the big picture that often.

  • Is the business shaping itself up, or are you shaping it so it reflects who you are?
  • Are you placing on hold your personal priorities for your business?
  • Are you involved in so many things that you don’t set time aside for your own personal well-being?

    **It's now time to address these takeaways by setting up objectives.***

These takeaways only mean something if they set you up for action. Now that you know, what are you going to do about it?

Time to set up your yearly objectives.
And so I did.

I wrote personnal objectives and for my business. I re-read them. Modified them. Clarified them. Prioritized them.

Once I was satisfied with my list, I made sure they were quantifiable, set in time and written (Article in french).

For example:

  • I want to write 2 articles per month vs I want to write more often.
  • I want to visit 3 new countries vs I want to travel more.

Feeling inspired, I had a duty to share.

Setting clear goals for myself was a very satisfying exercise. I now felt more grounded yet had a clearer long-term vision. Enthusiast and confident, I felt like inspiring others to do the same.

I began by writing a first article. And then came another one. And finally this last one, the one you’re reading, on sharing.

At first it was all about the process. How did I get from a point of understanding what needs to be better in my everyday life to a point where I started to act on it?

And to this, I now add:

Sharing them with people who believe in your capacity to accomplish them will lift you.

We all know that the mind dictates your capacity to accomplish something. Believe in yourself and you’re halfway there. Don’t and you’re already done.

Objectives are a very personal element of one’s life. Should they openly be shared like everything else?

1 – You share for you.

Always remember this: as many likes as you might get on Facebook or Instagram, no one is going to do this for you. These are your objectives and every action you take should be done to get you closer to your goals.

2 – Share with people intrinsically linked to your goals.

If someone can be a catalyst to the realization of one of your goals, let him know. Be clear; to the point. Once your dreams and ambitions become goals, what someone can do for you becomes clearer. Plus, any serious person who’s willing to invest time in one of your endeavours will only do so if you have a plan (or if he or she really loves you).

3 – Share with people who believe in you.

We’re driven young entrepreneurs and yes, sometimes our goals might be a bit ambitious. But hey, if you’re an entrepreneur and deep down you’re not set up to change the world at some point, then why are you in business for? Make sure to surround yourself with people who believe in you and will lift you towards your goals. Positive reinforcement is key.

That being said, you don’t want a harem of Yes Men in your inner circle. You sometimes need to hear things straight and a trusted outsider’s opinion could be your biggest asset.

Perhaps setting a board of advisors for your business or finding a personal mentor in the first quarter of the year should be one of your 2015 objectives?

Your goals now might be all set, but don’t act like you have a bulletproof plan. Be reactive and jump on what life throws at you.

Be ready to face the music because the year…is only getting started!
